When does membership for 2027 open?

Applications for the 2027 membership year are not open yet. The opening date, along with fees, categories and deadlines, is announced on the official IIDA WhatsApp channel first — join it from any page on this site, or register your interest on the Join IIDA page and we will email you instead.

How do I check whether someone is really an IIDA member?

Every member is issued a membership number. Enter it in the search on our Members Directory page to see whether it is genuine and current. The register confirms membership status only — it is not a verification of anyone's qualifications, licensing, insurance or the quality of their work. If a number does not check out, please report it to us.

What standards are IIDA members held to?

Every member, and every applicant from the date they apply, is bound by the IIDA Code of Conduct. It is published in full on this site and covers integrity, working within your competence, describing your qualifications and membership honestly, disclosing supplier commissions to clients, safety and compliance with building law, client confidentiality, conduct towards other designers, and how a practice treats its students and juniors. Where the code is breached, outcomes range from a written caution to removal from the register.

How do I make a complaint about a member, or report someone falsely claiming membership?

Use the form on our Report a Concern page, or email us. We can review conduct that falls short of the standards expected of a member, and we can act against anyone misusing the IIDA name, logo or a membership number. We cannot recover money, order refunds, decide contract disputes or suspend anyone's right to practise — for those, go to the police, the consumer forum or a court.

Legal status

7 questions

Who runs IIDA?

The association is directed by a national body of office bearers — patrons, a president and vice presidents, the national office, and committee chairs — supported by an Executive Committee, an Advisory Board and state chapter presidents. Every one of them is named on our Leadership page, with the city they work from. Holding office is a voluntary role alongside their own practice, and office bearers are bound by the same Code of Conduct as any other member.

Is IIDA a government body or a statutory regulator?

No. IIDA is a private, member-funded professional association. It is registered as an enterprise under the Government of India's MSME/Udyam scheme in Bengaluru, which records it as a business entity. That registration is not a professional accreditation and does not give IIDA any regulatory, licensing or statutory authority.

Does IIDA membership let me practise interior design legally?

Membership is a voluntary professional affiliation, not a licence. India currently has no statutory licensing authority for interior designers — unlike architecture, which is regulated by the Council of Architecture. Membership does not replace your formal qualifications or any registration your state or local authority may require.

Are you the same as the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) in the USA?

No. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), USA, or any other overseas organisation using the same initials. Indian Interior Designers Association is a separate Indian organisation that shares the acronym.

Is IIDA recognised by the Council of Architecture, AICTE or the Ministry of Education?

No, and we make no such claim. Those bodies regulate architecture and formal education. IIDA is a voluntary membership network for practising designers, studios and students.

Does IIDA offer any certifications or credentials for interior designers?

IIDA itself does not offer certifications, but it provides guidance and information on recognized credentials in the industry, helping members pursue relevant certification programs that enhance their qualifications.

What exactly do I get for my membership fee?

Access to member resources, networking and events, eligibility to enter the IIDA Awards, a listing in the Members Directory, and a membership badge you may display. You do not receive any government-issued certification, licence or accreditation. Full terms are on our Terms & Conditions and Refund Policy pages.
